Solitude

Hooghly….
Hooghly snakes through Kolkata like an unwanted whore
Constant reminder of her wasted youth
She wanders like a Nirvana seeker in Saddam-freed Iraq
Writhing in the burning ghettoes of indifference
Among the concrete monstrosities of an alien city Destiny beckons her forward as she frees herself
From the loosening hymeneal ties of wedlock
Her freedom feast attended by the wailing ghosts
Of her burgeoning Youth…..

Arabian Sea….
The lone flame flickers in the fiery winds
Making puppets out of shadows
The lone gecko is on a feast of mayflies
There is smell of death in the air
Or is it the smell of the Arabian Sea ?
The turbulent sea resonates his inner turmoil
There he sits hunched…the lonely child
Numb silence pierced by his muffled sobs
At his feet lies his mother , her swollen gloated self
He stands silhouetted against the dark grey sky
While the Arabian Sea shrieks and cries
“O my child , why do ye cry ”, howled the sea
“Come hither and fall asleep on my lap
Frothing and foaming with me Eternally
Let the salt of your tears merge with the
Salt of my soul……..”

so much movement, sound and interesting blend of colours - this post would read well with a background score and a painting.
The contrasting images of whore and ties of wedlock is rather wry , perhaps too true.

Im thrilled that youve started this blog.

Thank you materialmom....the juxtaposition of contrasting images was to enhance the mood of the poem...happy to know you liked it
